Locals rescued a Spanish tourist who was trapped under a fallen tree in a freak accident in Thailand.
The family were walking along a tree-lined path at the historical Wat Phra Si Sanphet temple in Ayutthaya when a large flame tree collapsed, sending branches crashing onto them on Sunday, 16 August.
Footage shows one stricken holidaymaker lying on the ground as locals battled to lift the large trunk pinning him down. The man's face was twisted in pain as the heavy object crushed his torso.
Rescuers used chainsaws to cut away the thick branches before carrying the injured visitors to waiting ambulances.
Javier De Estaban Lucea, 55, suffered serious injuries including a broken right rib and left leg. Three others – Juana Rodriguez Garcia, 58, Mariona Pujol Soria, 14, and Carlota Pujol Soria, 12 – suffered minor injuries.
