Two Thai air force pilots died after their AT-6TH light attack aircraft crashed during a training mission in a forested area of Chiang Mai province.

CHIANG MAI: A Thai military aircraft crashed during a training flight on Thursday, killing both pilots on board.

The air force confirmed the AT-6TH light attack aircraft went down in a forested area of northern Chiang Mai province.

Air force spokesman Jackkrit Thammanvichai said the accident occurred during a combat search and rescue training mission.

The two-seater plane crashed at around 10:20 am local time, according to an air force statement.

Officials stated the crash “did not affect local residents or cause damage to civilian property”.

Authorities have deployed to the scene and are investigating the cause of the accident.

In a separate incident last April, six Thai police officers were killed when a small plane crashed into the sea during a parachute drill south of Bangkok.
