The exhumation of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir’s body led to the discovery that there were indeed injuries on her body.

Soon after, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Datuk M Kumar, revealed that strict action would be taken against the investigating officer and their supervisor. This is due to there being non-compliance with investigation procedures, as the investigation officer did not make an application for an autopsy process.

Though it is important to note that Zara Qairina’s mother had allegedly requested that a post-mortem not be conducted.

Backlash from a neighbouring country

Following this, a new trend seems to have surfaced in Thailand, where many have been demanding justice for Zara Qairina.

Believing and insinuating that the authorities, those responsible for investigating and bringing justice, were paid off to cover up Zara Qairina’s case, they have been taking to TikTok to showcase videos of themselves using banknotes to cover their eyes, mouths and ears.

“Please don’t let money hide the truth,” one Thai netizen wrote.

Many of those participating in this trend are brands run by Muslim community members in Thailand, including a clothing brand, a skincare brand and more. Some used Thai Baht while others used Malaysian Ringgit.

“In fact, Thailand has been like this for a long time. Money wins over everything. The Zara Qairina case is not just about a child, but a challenge to society to question and control the moral exercise of power,” another Thai netizen added.
