Kota Kinabalu: Thailand dominated the relay events on the opening day of the 16th SEA Youth U18 Athletics Championship at the Likas Stadium on Thursday.

The won the gold medals at stakes in all four events started with the girls 4 x 100m team who finished in 47.17 seconds to beat Indonesia (47.31s) and Singapore (48.40s) followed by the boys 4 x 100m team with their time of 39.92s well ahead of second placed Indonesia (40.85s) and Singapore (41.10s) in third.

The third gold came from the girls 4 x 400m quartet who crossed the line in three minute 54.30 seconds followed by Malaysia (3:55.93) and Indonesia (4:02.87).

Only two teams took part in the boys 4 x 400m relay and Thailand came first with 3:14.39 ahead of Malaysia (3:18.18).

Vietnam are in second place with three golds and two silvers followed by Indonesia with one gold, three silvers and two bronzes.

Malaysia only managed two silvers and one bronze ahead of Singapore with two bronzes with Brunei in sixth place with one bronze medal.
