The global alumni community of the AIM has more than 45,000 graduates of which 4,000 from Malaysia who are entrepreneurs, professional managers, educators and military commanders. They are members of a registered alumni association, Kelab AIM Malaysia, which is a chapter affiliated with the Federation of AIM Alumni Associations (FAIM), based in Manila. Its members in KL met regularly first Thursday evening of every month at KL Royal Lake Club to exchange information about business opportunities.

Engaging an alumni network is one of the key success factors that entrepreneurial leaders need. Creating new connections with alumni can lead to knowledge sharing, entrepreneurship advancement and even open doors to new business opportunities. Alumni networks can provide significant resources to its members. Alumni's close-knit network enabled them to leverage relationships. Philippe Chow, CEO of D'Perception International said, “Smart leaders are discovering the hidden benefits from alumni networks.”

AIM was the first graduate school of business in Asia established in 1968. With its strong partnership with Harvard Business School (HBS), they were able to put up a good management school that attracted the best and the brightest in the Asia Pacific region. Unfortunately, today we find a lot more competition, not just around Asian but also US, EU and Australian business schools. Wharton is tied up with INSEAD in Singapore, the University of Chicago has a branch in Singapore, and other schools have tie-ups with Hong Kong and Malaysian universities. So we have to differentiate AIM, and the idea we would like to promote is that AIM knows Asia best and the Asian businesses.

Kelab AIM networks whether direct friendships or fellowships allow members with shared experiences and similar interests to touch base on an ongoing basis. With the current steep business competition from every corner of the globe, gaining access requires a step up in what entrepreneurs and managers must demonstrate. Philippe says, “Overseas clients, particularly in the region, look for well-rounded suppliers that have demonstrated competency and an ability to make strong business relations impact.”
