A shocking incident unfolded on 29 July 2013, during a serene Monday afternoon, shattering the tranquillity of a Buddhist temple in the centre of Kuala Lumpur.

A distinguished ex-banker, Hussain Najadi, and his wife became victims of a senseless attack. As they exited the temple, purportedly as a pre-arranged meeting place for a land deal, an assailant unleashed a barrage of bullets, fatally striking Hussain and injuring his wife. The assailant swiftly fled the scene in a waiting taxi, leaving behind a trail of confusion and lingering mysteries.

Hussain Najadi, a prominent figure known for his contributions to the banking sector, was the founder of AmBank. Despite his age of 75, he found himself targeted in a ruthless act of violence. The police quickly apprehended the taxi driver, Chew Siang Chee, who led them to the alleged gunman, Koong Swee Kwan, also known as Ah Kwan or Sei Ngan Chai.

The investigation revealed that Koong was merely a hired hand, paid RM20,000 to carry out the killing. However, the motive remained elusive. Koong implicated a triad figure named Lim Yuen Soo as the mastermind behind the attack but failed to provide a motive.

Despite Koong's swift conviction and sentencing to death, doubts lingered. Hussain's son, Pascal Najadi, suspected a deeper conspiracy. He alleged that his father's murder was connected to a larger financial scandal involving billions of ringgit. Pascal claimed that Hussain had knowledge of irregularities within AmBank and had refused tainted offers from influential figures.

The case took twists and turns, with arrests and releases, but justice remained elusive. Lim Yuen Soo, despite being implicated, was released due to lack of evidence. Chew Siang Chee, the taxi driver, served a fraction of his sentence before being released on appeal.

As Koong faced his fate, Pascal voiced his scepticism, believing it to be a cover-up. Despite the conviction, he lamented that the true orchestrators of his father's murder remained at large, shielded from accountability.

The verdict may have been delivered, but the echoes of injustice reverberate. The perpetrators who orchestrated Hussain Najadi's killing continue to evade justice, leaving behind a legacy of impunity and unanswered questions.
