My Rapid Touch n' Go-based card for senior citizens (above 60 years old), sold, distributed and managed by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has enabled my wife, Zarina & I to travel with Rapid KL trains on MRT, LRT, Monorail, Rapid Buses & Vans. It is a contactless smart card used for payment of the public transportation fares of Rapid KL services in Malaysia. This facility entitlement encourage us to travel to all stations in Klang Valley that we've yet to visit.
Last Monday 03 November morning, we aboard MRT from Putrajaya Sentral Station for one hour ride to MRT Damansara Damai. We did walkabouts to look for ‘roti canai’ breakfast at a good restaurant. What's a blessing just a few steps across the station, we found a cheerful Iskandar Bistro Nasi Kandar. We were welcomed by the restaurant frontline customer service staff. What caught my attention was the supervisor wearing clean smart corporate shirt.
As HRD practitioner and trainer, who continue to learn about the hands-on principles and function of management and entrepreneurship, I always love to know the essential of an effective restaurant supervisor. How he managed to balance strong leadership & people management skills with real sound operational and financial acumen to create a positive environment for both staff & guests? So, I decided to engage in conversation with Supervisor Malik.
Malik revealed that “An effective restaurant supervisor is a leader who uses strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills to manage staff, ensure customer satisfaction, and maintain operational efficiency. I must be able to lead by example, handle finances, manage inventory, adapt very quickly to unexpected challengers to keep the restaurant running smoothly. I have to set high standards of work ethics, motivate and inspire teamwork.”
