As millions of Europeans prepare to watch tonight’s solar eclipse, one airline has published a list of the best flights offering passengers a front-row seat.
With Spain falling into the “path of totality”, a narrow corridor where the moon blocks the sun completely, Jet2 has identified 10 scheduled flights operating tonight that promise breathtaking eclipse views.
While views will depend on weather, flight schedules, seat position and final routing, passengers on the following flights are in with a good chance of an impressive show.
The 8.15pm LS1836 service from Ibiza to Bristol is expected to pass closest to the path of totality over northern Spain and the Bay of Biscay, giving holidaymakers one of the strongest chances of seeing the total eclipse from the air, with customers expected to enjoy stunning views.
Passengers on the 7.05pm LS874 service from Faro to Manchester could also fly through a high-coverage eclipse zone, with potential views over western Portugal.
And those boarding the 6pm LS1892 flight from Tenerife South to Bristol could get close to one of the highest-coverage areas as the aircraft travels towards north-west Spain.

- LS274 Alicante to Leeds Bradford, scheduled to depart at 8.25pm local time
- LS266 Málaga to Leeds Bradford, scheduled to depart at 8.35pm local time
- LS228 Palma de Mallorca to Leeds Bradford, scheduled to depart at 8.40pm local time
- LS258 Palma de Mallorca to Leeds Bradford, scheduled to depart at 9pm local time
- LS3286 Zante Zakynthos to Liverpool, scheduled to depart at 9pm local time
David Hills, chief customer officer at Jet2, said: “The solar eclipse is already creating real excitement, and some of our customers could be in a very special position to see it from the skies or on their holidays.
“It could be a brilliant once-in-a-lifetime moment for those on board our flights or in some of our destinations, and we cannot wait to see the photos that our customers and colleagues capture.”
Spanish airline Iberia has revealed that it plans to livestream the total solar eclipse from 10,000 metres in the air by chartering a special flight to observe the astronomical event high in the sky.
While the flight is not open to general passengers, footage will be shared from the flight on its social media channels.
