Bigme might not be a particularly popular brand in Malaysia, but they are quite well known globally for their lineup of eInk Android tablets. Their latest device though is perhaps their coolest one yet: a smartphone with both an eInk display on the front and an LCD screen on the back.

The Bigme HiBreak Dual 2 features a 6.13-inch eInk display on the front side, which can be kitted out with your choice of a black-and-white panel or a colour eInk panel. It’s also able to push out an 80Hz refresh rate, which for an eInk panel is actually pretty impressive. The back though is a 5-inch LCD display, with an unspecified resolution, though this will be the screen you’ll likely be using when you’re watching videos or scrolling TikTok and Instagram.

And yes, you will be able to do that as it is a full-fat smartphone, running Android 16 out of the box. It comes powered by a MediaTek DImensity 8300 system-on-chip, along with up to 16GB of memory and up to 512GB of storage. Bigme claims that the HiBreak Dual 2 will come with dual 5G network connectivity too, along with a fingerprint scanner and face unlock for biometric verification.

Other features revealed so far include a 50MP rear camera that sits above the LCD display, as well as a 5MP front camera above the eInk panel, while stylus support on the eInk display also lets you take notes and annotate directly on the screen. There will also be NFC support for easy tap and go payments, and though they’ve highlighted 30W fast charging there hasn’t been any mention of battery capacity for now.
The Bigme HiBreak Dual 2 will be going on sale via Kickstarter which you can head to by clicking here. The Kickstarter page will go live from 9PM, 10 July onwards, and it’ll start from USD599 for its base model with a black-and-white eInk panel.
