
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim delivered a keynote speech on a panel alongside the Prime Ministers of China, Singapore and Spain at the BOAO Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2023 in Hainan under the theme "An Uncertain World: Solidarity and Cooperation for Development amid Challenges". Anwar had urged for the revival of China's infrastructure collaboration with developing nations that reiterated Malaysia's efforts to reengage with the world's second biggest economy.
Anwar, according to Bernama said "Translating lofty ideas into practical reality, solidarity and cooperation is best exemplified in the realisation of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is time for the infrastructure collaboration to regain its momentum with the worst of the pandemic over. We need diversification and proactive relations."
BOAO (a coastal town in South China's Hainan Province) 4 days (28-31 March) Forum for BFA Annual Conference 2023 draws global attention on Asian economic vitality. After three long years under the COVID-19 pandemic, this year conference fully resumes offline meetings. Delegates from the various governments, business, academia and media from all over the world dived deep into four modules of topics, namely: "Development and Inclusiveness; Efficiency and Security; Regional and Global; and The Present and the Future," seeking ways for development amid the post-pandemic era, and deepening cooperation among international community.
It was heartwarming Premier Li Qiang support the call by Anwar that "chaos and conflicts" must not happen in Asia and that China would act as "anchor" for global peace. They will introduce a series of new measures in expanding market access and optimising the business environment. Peace is a prerequisite for development.
Anwar who is on a four-day official visit to China and will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing as part of efforts to reinvigorate bilateral relations between the two nations. Our Foreign Ministry reported that China has been Malaysia's largest trading partner since 2009, and total trade between the two nations reached RM487.1 billion in 2022. China was also the top investors in Malaysia last year contributing 21% of the RM264.6 billion investments from the list of country approved.
