Global magazine Time Out recently released its travel experts’ guide to the best places to visit in Asia next year, which included a surprise inclusion of a gem of a Malaysian city: Ipoh!
Specifically, the state capital city of Perak was named the 5th best place to visit in Asia in 2025, so read on to learn more.

According to Time Out, the list details the top 10 emerging Asian destinations that travellers need to put on their bucket list, with input taken by the magazine’s editors and travel contributors.
Moreover, Time Out asserted that the destinations featured in the list are emerging hotspots, either long overlooked or previously hard to get to, but now on the map for travellers searching for alternatives to popular destinations such as Bali, Tokyo and Bangkok.

- Da Nang, Vietnam
- Tainan, Taiwan

Ipoh named the 5th best place to visit in Asia next year

In her write-up about Ipoh, Time Out contributor Sharmila Rajah said that the Perak capital city welcomes everyone with open arms.
Moreover, Ipoh is now more connected thanks to increased flights from Singapore, a new 2-hour express train service from Kuala Lumpur and a pit stop by the luxury train coach service Eastern & Oriental Express.
She added that Ipoh charms with its heritage buildings, quaint shophouses, limestone cliffs and cave temples.
Time Out further lauded Ipoh as a city for eating and lists down local favourite joints such as chicken rice at Restaurant Lou Wong Tauge Ayam Kuetiau, kai see hor fun at Restoran Tuck Kee, nasi ganja at Kedai Kopi Yong Suan and kaya puffs at Sin Eng Heong.
