Lots of people love the rotating bezel on the Galaxy Watch series and now, let’s talk about the new Galaxy Watch8 series. I’m calling it a series because there are technically 4 new smartwatches, but I’m being petty with the details.
Anyway, the Galaxy Watch8 series uses the new “cushion design”, which is to say a squircle, just like what we had with the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
The Galaxy Watch8 is available in both 40mm and 44mm sizes just like before, in both Graphite and Silver colors. It is also 11% thinner than before, and that’s great.
The Watch8 Classic is only available in 46mm size, in both black and white colors. What’s interesting is the Classic now has the third button at the side, just like the Galaxy Watch Ultra. This button is missing from the Watch8.
Of course, since it’s the Classic, the rotating bezel makes a return too. A lot of people love the rotating bezel, so this watch is practically made for you.
By the way, both the Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic are using the same Dynamic Lug system for the strap, just like the Watch Ultra. This is important as that means all the existing straps will not work unless you have some adapter for it.
They’re all also using the same chipset as the Watch Ultra, alongside a 50% brighter screen and 8% larger battery. For location tracking, the Watch8 and Classic now has dual GPS for precise tracking.
As for the Galaxy Watch Ultra, there are no changes. Instead. Samsung is now doubling the Watch Ultra’s storage from 32GB to 64GB. If you download Spotify music to be listened offline, then this is perfect for you.
Samsung also added a new Titanium Blue color that looks absolutely beautiful. Remember the controversy about Samsung following Apple’s color scheme for their watches? Last year, I said that Samsung could’ve released a Galaxy Watch Ultra with the Samsung Blue color – and they did it now. It looks absolutely gorgeous too.
As for the software, the Galaxy Watch8 series will run One UI 8 Watch on top of WearOS 6. Gemini is also built-in to our watches now. The design language this time is the pill shape, used practically everywhere in the tiles and whatnot. Oh, the Now Bar is also on the watchface – so we can get access to those things easily and quickly.
As for new features, we now have something called Bedtime Guidance that detects our irregular sleep time and suggests what’s the time that we should go to sleep.
While sleeping the watch can also detect our vascular load. This is important as it can tell us how our heart is behaving while we’re asleep.
Our smartwatch can now also become our running coach as it analyzes our running performance, then personalizes the coaching plan and gives us real-time feedback.
One new feature that I didn’t get the time to try is the antioxidant index. It measures if we’re smoking, stressed, taking in alcohol, overeating, and all of those things alongside carotenoid detection via our skin, then gives us a score based on our lifestyle.
The carotenoid detection via our skin is brand new, and the Galaxy Watch8 series is the first smartwatch to be able to do this.
And that is all that we have to share with the Galaxy Watch8 series as of now. We will have our full review coming when we have our hands on it, and do check out other devices that were announced during this Unpacked too.
