  • A total solar eclipse will sweep across Greenland, Iceland, Portugal, and mainland Spain on 12 August, marking mainland Spain's first total solar eclipse in over a century, while the UK and Ireland will witness a partial eclipse.
  • The celestial event will coincide with a six-planet alignment before dawn and the peak of the Perseid meteor shower after nightfall.
  • Maximum totality will last up to two minutes and 18 seconds off the west coast of Iceland, with hundreds of millions set to view a partial eclipse across Europe, North America and West Africa.
