Kota Kinabalu: The Department of Human Resource Development (JPSM) and Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently with the aim of developing a skilled workforce.

State Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said the agreement focuses on collaboration in the field of education and the Technical and Vocational Training Programme (TVET).

This collaboration aims to equip youth with essential skills and knowledge.

“By enhancing skills and knowledge in alignment with industry needs and recognition, job opportunities are guaranteed, translating the efforts to the state government through JPSM to reduce the unemployment rate.

He said that by 2035, JPSM, as a leader in human capital development, will work towards providing and enhancing workforce competence through diverse skills training programmes to meet the demands of the job market.

“The Sabah Industry LED Professional Certificate (SIPC) Programme took place from September 5 to September 28 at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and offers an opportunity for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) graduates aged 18 to 30 to initiate a career in the automotive industry.

“This comprehensive programme is specifically designed to equip school leavers with the skills and knowledge needed to join the industrial production crew.

“The Sabah Industry Certificate Engineering-Digital Engineering Prototyping Programme (SICE-DEP) will take place from October 5 to 4, 2023, which provides a unique opportunity to start a career in the automotive industry and has been attended by 24 participants,” Arifin said.

At the ceremony, he expressed his appreciation to MARii for donating the equipment used as a Dojo at MARii Satellite Sabah to the Technical and Trade Training Institute (ILTP) under the supervision of JPSM.

“It is hoped that this donation can assist training institutions in Sabah in developing knowledge related to the automotive industry, manufacturing and nurturing the state’s future talent,” Arifin said.

At the event, JPSM was represented by its director, Dg Norsiah Ag Duraman, while Chief Executive Officer Azrul Reza Aziz represented MARii, witnessed by MARii Senior General Manager Bakri Alias.

Also present to witness the ceremony were Assistant Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Harun Durabi and KSTI Permanent Secretary Datuk Hanafiah Mohd Kassim.
