Adapted from the 1957 Argentine science fiction graphic novel written by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and illustrated by Francisco Solano López, the Spanish-language Netflix series follows the same plot as the source material, albeit it equips the narrative with technology, like cellphones.
The series follows the events after a mysterious snowfall in Buenos Aires, Argentina, that kills everything it touches. To survive the aftereffects of this extraterrestrial threat, people must don layers of waterproof clothing and gas masks. One such person is Juan Salvo (played by Ricardo Darín). Along with his friends, Juan strives to survive in this post-apocalyptic world and find his missing daughter, Clara (played by Mora Fisz).
While staying faithful to the original material, the sci-fi series also manages to humanise the characters, similar to how The Last of Us and other successful survival dramas tackle their storylines.

The Eternaut season 1 ending left viewers with more questions than answers as Juan discovers an army of mentally controlled people when a shadow of an alien appears. It is here that Juan realises that something is terribly wrong, and the show ends on this cliffhanger.

In fact, talking to Deadline, Netflix’s Latin American content VP, Francisco ‘Paco’ Ramos said, “Season 2 is going to be very important. It’s going to dig into a lot of sci-fi concepts that were just pointed out in Season 1, and they are going to be fully blown.”
Season 2 might have eight episodes
While it is not officially confirmed, in the same interview with Deadline, producer Matías Mosteirin stated, “We believe that we will manage to close the whole story in a beautiful way, with probably eight more episodes.”
