When my wife, Zarina & I stepped up at the reception of Silka Maytower Hotel, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, City Centre Kuala Lumpur, we could smell a spicy scent alluring us to Aroma of Spices Restaurant located at the ground floor. While spices help enhance our tastebuds and our noses, they also hint at something deeper, ancient, and grounding. Spices remain an important component of lifetime human experience. At the enterance of Aroma of Spices Restaurant, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, Harmet who showed us the nice breakfast buffet spread and to let us choose our preferred table. The menu was good with a fine range of dishes vegetarian and non vegetarian & reasonable price. We tried several dishes including the toast with ‘kaya’, Malaysian nasi lemak, ideli with potato and chicken curries plus mixed fruits. The spicy curries are not that ‘pedas’ (having a sharp burning taste) which can be suitable to my young grandchildren.

Engaging in conversation with me, Harmet who has experienced in F&B business, even prior to Covid pandemic managed one outlet in Genting Highland, said that “Aroma of Spices Restaurant at Silka Maytower commenced operations 4 months ago. So far, we managed to sustain our business operation despite of the ongoing competitiveness of halal F&B industry among Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) owners in City Centre KL. We identified our strengths having best food served, passionate staff & excellent customer service.”

I understand the halal F&B industry remains the most well-known part of Malaysia's halal ecosystem. SMEs are the actual backbone Malaysia's halal sector. The prioritisation of halal food is not seen as a burden but a fundamental aspect ingrained in our society & part of our culture. Halal F&B has becoming a phenomenal with the growing number of customers encompass Muslims & non-Muslims.
