Before 2025 ended, The Fray returned to Manila to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their album “How To Save A Life” at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Manila show is their only stop in Asia, making it an especially memorable night for Filipino fans. The American rock band — with current members Joe King, Dave Welsh, and Ben Wysocki — is behind hit songs “You Found Me,” “Never Say Never,” “Over My Head (Cable Car),” and “How To Save A Life.”

The Fray commenced their show with “She Is” and “All at Once,” inviting the attendees with the same sound and nostalgic energy.

With “Look After You,” the somber mood drew fans into singing the piece with the band. “Fall Away” elevated the atmosphere with expressive vocals and laid-back rhythm. The band then shifted the energy with a rock performance of “Little House,” amplified with stirring guitar solos.

Keeping the momentum, they delivered “Dead Wrong,” followed by “Trust Me” to lighten the mood before slowing it down with a reflective piece, “Heaven Forbid.”

A cinematic performance of “Vienna” further reeled the audience into a wistful mood, capped by the vocalists’ effortlessly poignant delivery. Afterward, the band reminisced about their early years, sharing stories that highlighted the value of each member of the group. Having debuted in 2002, this was their first time returning to Manila after a long hiatus, making the evening even more significant.

Reaching a climactic turning point, they addressed the significance of freedom and the craft of making music before proceeding with their hit “Over My Head,” prompting the concertgoers to rise and fully immerse themselves in the performance.

They followed with the anthemic hit “How To Save A Life,” with the crowd illuminating the venue with phone lights, making it a highlight of the evening. The moment was defined by its simplicity, with the song’s familiarity and emotional core carrying the performance. In addition, they also surprised fans with a fresh remix of the track.

Following this, The Fray presented their 2025 single “My Heart’s A Crowded Room,” as the lead vocalist greeted the concertgoers and walked around the standing section of the coliseum. They continued with another upbeat track, “Hurricane,” performing the first half of the song offstage before returning to the stage to give away roses to the attendees.

The Fray also delivered their version of The Cranberries’ “Dreams,” chanting “Manila, never stop dreaming,” encouraging their fans to continue pursuing their dreams. Immediately after, the crowd responded with a standing ovation during their performance of “You Found Me.”

Naturally, fans cheered for an encore, and the band returned with a powerful rendition of “Love Don’t Die.” They also performed their latest single, “Songs I’d Rather Not Sing,” bringing a rollercoaster of emotions to the audience, before closing the evening with “Never Say Never.”

Fans cherished every lyric, singing along even as the members prepared to exit the stage. After months on tour, the Manila show marked a point of closure, wrapping up the performance alongside their supporters, letting the moment unfold naturally.

“How To Save A Life” album remains one of the most resonant pop-rock records of the mid-2000s. It stands out for its vulnerability and timeless blend of rock and piano-led arrangements. Its melodic and authentic storytelling centered on love, loss, and the complexities of relationships, which deeply resonated with its listeners.
