During the 3 hours layover at Singapore Changi Airport for Scoot flight to Incheon International Airport, I experience a world-class service icon for the age of Jetsons-style travel. Its technological advancements, automation tools powered by artificial intelligence (AI) have been seamlessly integrated into operations, propelling into an era of revolutionised travel. I noticed the Fast and Seamless Travel (Fast) automated check-in kiosks in departure halls at Changi Airport allow travellers to print boarding passes & check-in efficiently.

Around the world and at home in KLIA, air travel has been on a steady incline to pre-pandemic levels and beyond, signalling that travel remains an integral part of people's lives. Changi Airport Group (CAG) reports handling 58.9 million passengers in 2023 - 86% of 2019 numbers - and is hopeful about a full recovery by 2024 (www.changiairport.com).

Asia-Pacific region is projected to have the most rapid growth among all regions, with an estimated total of 4 billion in passenger traffic in 2040, according to International Air Transport Associations (Iata) Global Outlook for Air Transport report, published in December 2023. To that end, the industry is developing solutions to handle the upcoming load.

Of course, Singapore Airlines (SIA) can't be separated from Singapore. It is the city-state's phenomenally successful flag carrier. Its cabin crew are emblems known globally. Even SIA's budget carrier Scoot comes into action. Scoot plays a major role bringing passengers into Singapore from smaller airports, and uses the narrow-body planes on those routes.

As a kind of cherry on top of the cake, SIA was named the World's Best Airline by U.K. - based airline consultancy Skytrax last June, toppling Qatar Airways, which held the top accolade since 2019. Interestingly, Singapore Airlines Engineering Company (SIAEC) will soon take over all the hangars and buildings at Complex A of Subang Airport (SZBAP).

Impeccable Vintage Properties (IVP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah, was tasked by the Government of Malaysia to revive and develop a 99-acre land at SZBAP into an aerospace hub. IVP signed 30 years lease agreement for SIAEC to gain the billions in running the airline maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) business in the region (myivp.my).
