The Good, the Bad and the Ugly – Ep 6: crossed wires, looking out for the young and Billie Eilish in KL

‘BIZARRE’ would be the description of events unfolding in the 5G roll-out as Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin claimed that he has been left in the dark over the government’s 5G network roll-out plan, raising questions over his role in the ministry, in Umno and relevance on the eyes of his political masters.

Has the deputy minister of communications and multimedia gone rogue? Is it not highly ironic that the “communications” deputy minister is not even communicating with his own minister? Is this a sign of something rotten in the corridors of power

The government has decided to lower the age for dispatch riders from 21 to 18 to allow more youth to partake in the gig economy, according to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

But is a career in the gig economy really what was envisioned for young Malaysians in Vision 2020, 30 years ago? How does this reflect on the current state of the nation?

Road accident statistics do not favour the young: 25% of motorcycle fatalities involve riders in the 16-18 age group. Is anything being done to change mindsets and beef up road safety training? Will food delivery companies take more accountability in ensuring the safety of their riders?

Our panellists discuss these issues and also the upcoming Billie Eilish concert in Kuala Lumpur, and what that signifies for the future of (what has always been problematic) imported entertainment to Malaysia. – The Vibes, June 25, 2022
