Corporate alumni who retired or leaved on good records and terms from a company, like Malaysia Airlines (MAS) can serve as valuable brand ambassadors. They can support business growth by helping create sales opportunities in their new environment and provide the right connections within their new business organisations, and new communities.

A corporate alumni network is comprised of former employees who actively maintain a connection with an organisation and former colleagues after the employment ends. Corporate alumni networks are important because they foster lasting former employee engagement, and cultivate a community of former employees, and their families.

Shulhameed Marican, a former General Manager of MAS Flight Operations who's currently served as the President of MAS Retirees Association (MASRA), said “Our networking happens naturally through various events, especially during wedding receptions of our children and grandchildren. Think about it, you and your children gain a community that can support a network of professionals as mentors, referrals, and business opportunities, at the tip of your fingers. In the case of MASRA, our members are spread around the globe.”

Last weekend, whilst having high tea with my wife, Zarina's siblings and spouses, at Umai Cafe with the tagline ‘Taste Like Home’ at Kompleks Sukan Air, Presint 6 Putrajaya, we happily met former Manager, MAS Property Development, Haji Roslan Abu Hanuf who's now an accomplished tourism entrepreneur with homestay networks at various locations around the country. His son is working with Malaysia Airlines Berhad, another son is serving as Security Manager with Air Asia & his daughter-in-law is Senior Manager @MAHB.

Roslan agreed, “Corporate alumni has the potential to be your biggest advocates and brand ambassadors. They have experienced what it's like to work smart in a company, and a positive referral from them is more likely to turn into a successful business. They know and can explain the products, services that the company offered & about the work culture.”
