Nature is not a cost to manage, it's a foundation to invest in. I noticed that in transforming Putrajaya, the federal administrative capital into a green city, Perbadanan (Corporation) Putrajaya (PPJ) undertook 38% of its area to be developed into parks, lakes, and wetlands while the rest is reserved a balanced urban development. Evidently, one of the most striking features of Putrajaya Wetlands Park is the endless greenery that stretches across the landscape. I realized that forests, mangroves, and biodiverse landscapes are not just ecosystems. They are economies, sustaining livelihoods, unlocking investments, and driving growth. PPJ is scaling nature-positive solutions across the green city, creating job opportunities, and strengthening resilience. Last weekend in our walkabouts, my wife, Zarina & I stumbled upon the uniqueness of the greenery and landscape of the neighborhood of Putrajaya, and stumbled upon Desa Pinggiran Putra, lies in its rare blend of a tranquil, traditional Malay Reserved countryside ambiance seamlessly integrated nature. It sits directly next to Putrajaya's expansive wetland networks and natural lake boundaries, providing residents unpolluted air, and migratory bird watching.
I realized behind every green economy, there are people who are driving change because nature needs protecting, finance needs directing & infrastructure needs building. But none of it works without the right people who have the skills, tools, and backing to lead through innovative partnerships mechanism.
As a kampung boy, I observed what ends up on our plate begins long before the kitchen. It begins with the soil farmers tend, the water they protect & the policies that make sustainable farming viable. As such, the future of the green economy is driven by a massive global shift toward zero-emission energy.
