As expected, the United States rejected the claim by the President of PAS that Washington had previously sought to influence Malaysia's political leadership.
US Embassy in Malaysia Chargé d’Affaires ad interim said in a statement posted on its Facebook page said any suggestion that the US had sought to determine Malaysia’s political leadership was untrue.
How else do we expect them to respond?
That yes, we did attempt to remove the sitting PM of Malaysia then?
In all honesty, Malaysians are not surprised as claims of United States interference in foreign governments are well-documented and form a major part of modern geopolitical history.
What surprised Malaysians was why Malaysia?
Isn’t the President of US, Obama a good buddy of the then PM6?
President Obama even invited PM6 for a round of golf in Hawaii in Dec 2014, the same time where Kelantan was inundated with a flood that destroyed and displaced thousands.
What about the claim by the President of PAS that he and his then PAS secretary-general met with the then US Ambassador to Malaysia in 2014, Joseph Y. Yun where the Ambassador asked him who PAS was proposing as prime minister.
Now that the US has officially decried the claim by the President of PAS, it is important and critical, for the following to confirm and reaffirmed the claim by the President of PAS.
- PAS assistant secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who was Hadi’s political secretary at the time who was invited and went to the US Embassy for the meeting where they were asked whether PAS was prepared to help topple and take over the government,
- Mustafa Ali, presently the Chairman for a PN division in Terengganu who went with the President of PAS for the meeting with the then US Ambassador to Malaysia, Joseph Y Yun,
- Tun Dr Mahathir, who was informed by the President of PAS on his meeting with the US Ambassador to Malaysia.
The denial by the US is expected but the people named by the President of PAS as having participated or were made aware of the attempts by the US needs to reveal and confirm the events as claimed.
Keeping silent on this claim will erode and damage the credibility of their President and a friend for Tun Dr Mahathir.
Or they wish and want that perception to be created by the public?
