Ever wondered what the world would look like if everyday life were transformed into a miniature theme park? This November, Hong Kong artist Sim Chan is bringing his imaginative world, The Infinite-land, to Kuala Lumpur, inviting visitors to discover familiar Malaysian scenes from a completely different perspective.

Running from 6 November 2026 to 24 January 2027 at Galeri Filamen, Level 4, GMBB Kuala Lumpur, the exhibition features 15 artworks that combine miniature sculptures, optical illusions, interactive installations and elements of everyday life.

Curated by Kobe Ko, The Infinite-land transforms ordinary objects and situations into playful, thought-provoking experiences. Visitors can expect everything from miniature badminton players inside a MILO box to a floating durian emerging from a capsule machine.

And in some installations, visitors might even find themselves becoming part of the artwork.

Step Into a Miniature Theme Park Inspired by Everyday Life

Unlike a conventional art exhibition, The Infinite-land is designed as an unconventional miniature theme park, where each artwork becomes an attraction waiting to be explored.

Visitors are encouraged to look closely through tiny windows, discover miniature figures caught in familiar situations and explore mirrored installations that create the illusion of spaces stretching endlessly.

Some artworks also incorporate interactive elements, including claw machines and gachapon capsule machines. Each admission comes with a coin that visitors can use inside the exhibition.

The experience brings together humour, curiosity and social observation, encouraging visitors to reconsider the ordinary routines and behaviours that often go unnoticed in daily life.

A Miniature World with a Malaysian Twist

For the Kuala Lumpur edition, Sim Chan has taken inspiration from Malaysian culture, incorporating familiar objects, local activities and everyday experiences into his miniature creations.

Among the details visitors can discover are tiny figures playing badminton inside a MILO box and a floating durian appearing from a capsule machine.

These playful references offer a distinctly Malaysian interpretation of The Infinite-land, transforming recognisable aspects of local life into unexpected artistic encounters.

The Kuala Lumpur exhibition also introduces a new live projection artwork, developed through a collaboration between Sim Chan and Filamen.

The installation allows visitors to become part of the exhibition itself. By looking into a miniature cable car, visitors may find themselves appearing on a larger screen, creating an unusual experience where the observer becomes part of the observed world.

From Taiwan and Penang to Kuala Lumpur

The Infinite-land was first presented in Tainan, Taiwan, in 2024, where the exhibition attracted visitors who queued outside its intimate gallery space to experience Sim Chan's miniature world.

The exhibition subsequently made its Malaysian debut at Blank Canvas in Penang in 2025, where its run was extended beyond the originally scheduled closing date.

Now entering its third iteration, The Infinite-land arrives in Kuala Lumpur with new artistic elements and references inspired by the city's surroundings and Malaysian culture.

While the exhibition retains its signature combination of miniature environments and interactive installations, the latest edition introduces fresh details that reflect Sim's observations of everyday life in Malaysia.

The Artist Behind The Infinite-land

Born and based in Hong Kong, Sim Chan is an artist whose practice explores urban environments, human behaviour and the routines of everyday life.

Working across painting, sculpture and mixed media, Sim draws inspiration from nature, contemporary issues and the interactions that shape how people experience the world around them.

His artworks often combine miniature models, lighting, mechanical structures, mirrors and found or recycled materials to reconstruct familiar environments in unexpected ways.

One of the defining characteristics of his work is the use of mirrors to create the illusion of infinite space within physically small installations.

Through these miniature environments, visitors are encouraged to slow down, observe the smallest details and consider how seemingly ordinary situations can reveal something about the wider world.

An Interactive Art Experience for Visitors

Whether you are interested in contemporary art, miniature models or simply looking for something different to experience in Kuala Lumpur, The Infinite-land offers an opportunity to explore art through observation and interaction.

Rather than viewing the artworks only from a distance, visitors are invited to move closer, peer into small openings and discover the unexpected details hidden within each installation.

The combination of miniature figures, mirrored environments and mechanical elements creates an experience where perspective plays an important role in how the artworks are perceived.
