In the finale of the 2026 series, Kang Seong-jae ultimately wins the 29th Division Military Cooking Competition. Ahead of the final round, Seong-jae loses confidence after the mysterious quest system that had guided him throughout his journey suddenly disappears. Convinced that he can no longer rely on its help, he fears he will not be able to defeat his rival, Lee Ho-young.

However, encouragement from his superiors helps him realise that his growth as a cook came from his own hard work and determination rather than the quest system itself. During the competition, he draws inspiration from memories of his late father and focuses on the values he learned through cooking.

His final dish, a simple rice-and-kimchi meal, evokes powerful childhood memories for the judges and resonates with them on an emotional level. As a result, Seong-jae defeats Lee Ho-young and is crowned the winner of the competition.

The Legend of Kitchen Soldier ending explained: What happens in the final moments?

After the competition ends, the series delivers a major revelation about the death of Kang Seong-jae’s father. Wang Seok-joo arrives with crucial evidence that exposes a long-hidden conspiracy connected to Ganglim Outpost.

The evidence reveals that Seong-jae’s father had been wrongfully accused while investigating corruption surrounding the outpost eight years earlier. Powerful military superiors had been attempting to shut down Ganglim Outpost by labelling it unsafe and sought to eliminate anyone who threatened their plans. In the process, Seong-jae’s father became a victim of the cover-up.

With Wang Seok-joo’s evidence finally bringing the truth to light, Seong-jae learns that his father had been framed. Those responsible for the corruption and cover-up are exposed and punished, while his father’s name is cleared.

The finale of the Korean drama ends with justice being served, Ganglim Outpost’s future secured and Seong-jae finally finding closure after years of uncertainty surrounding his father’s death.
