It is a fact - Malaysia is a very special country of diversity, warmth and hope. For decades, different people groups have stayed and worked together, building their Malaysian dream. Malaysia is truly blessed as a nation – no major earthquakes or catastrophe. Her strength is her diversity. Her strength lies in her people.
Our nation will be heading for her 16th General Election (GE16) soon. Her people will be coming out to cast their votes so that their Malaysian dream becomes a reality. Yes, through the decades, we have witnessed the ugliness of corruption and greed among some of our leaders. Through the various general elections, we have experienced a spectrum of emotions. As our nation sailed through the various challenges, many may have despaired or even lost hope of a better Malaysia. To me, HOPE remains. There is light at the end of every tunnel experience.
So, my fellow Malaysians, it is the time to really wake up from whatever lethargy and shake off any sense of defeat. We must all arise as a nation and make our one vote count. Many may choose to just brush this idea away. You may say, “What difference is my one vote?”
The recent upset in India Tamil Nadu Elections was due to just one vote! This power of one vote has been seen on various incidences. In 1800, Thomas Jefferson was elected President by one vote in the House of Representatives after a tie in the Electoral College. In 1846, President Polk’s request for a Declaration of War against Mexico passed by one vote. The same miracle repeated itself on a few other occasions too. So, never underestimate the power of that one vote for democracy given to you.
Many of you may have observed our Malaysian Parliament sessions in progress. We have seen how some ministers performed well while some others are simply self-serving or even clueless. I must say that I have great expectations of all our cabinet members. I still hold high expectations for GE16.
For the progress of my nation and the generations to come, I pray for God-fearing men and women to be in positions of authority. Such men or women would be of good character, clear conscience and good attitude. They will walk their talk. They will serve the rakyat to the best of their abilities. They will not be defiled by bad languages or unhealthy thoughts. They will be wise and creative in coming up with ideas to solve the problems that our nation is struggling with. The precious time for parliamentary debates will not be wasted in trivial matters because we are going to vote for Malaysians of great calibre and integrity.
In short, my expectation is simple. I believe we all want a government that works and improves the economy, as well as applies the law fairly. We Malaysians are simply sick of corruption at different levels of authority.
Malaysia is definitely neither lacking in talents nor resources. Together, we can reshape our nation towards progress and prosperity. Fellow Malaysians, let each of us use our one vote wisely.
God bless Malaysia!
