Passport power rankings are out, and some countries are soaring to new heights!
Among them is the Malaysian passport, which jumped nine spots to rank 3rd in the world, according to the 2025 Passport Index Rankings.

Malaysia ranks 3rd in the world
Based on the latest data, the Malaysian passport now ranks third in the world, while regionally, it’s the second strongest in Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) takes the top spot in the Passport Power Rank, followed by Singapore and Spain, which share second place.
Do note that this is a different index from the Henley Passport Index, which Malaysia placed 12th globally in its latest iteration, tying with the United States (US).
Here’s how all Southeast Asian countries stacked up this year according to the 2025 Passport Index Rankings:
- Singapore – 2nd globally
- Malaysia – 3rd globally
- Brunei – 15th globally
- Timor-Leste – 45th globally
- Thailand – 51st globally
- Indonesia – 54th globally
- Philippines – 64th globally
- Vietnam – 71st globally
- Cambodia – 72nd globally
- Laos – 78th globally
- Myanmar – 83rd globally

“It reflects global trust in the security of M’sia’s travel documents”
In a Facebook post, the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) said the achievement reflects the international community’s trust and recognition of Malaysia’s secure travel documents.
The department added that Malaysians can now enjoy visa-free access to 174 countries around the world. This opens up more opportunities for travel, study, work, and business.
From an economic standpoint, Malaysia’s stronger passport also helps boost global business ties and attract foreign investment.
