Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak has lauded Malaysia’s efforts to foster unity among its diverse population, highlighting the country's success in creating a multicultural society that garners international acclaim. Speaking at the Regional Southeast Asia Human Dignity Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Sultan Nazrin underscored Malaysia's inclusive approach as a beacon of hope for global harmony.

In his keynote address, Sultan Nazrin reflected on Malaysia’s journey towards unity and inclusivity, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen—regardless of race, religion, or region—feels they belong under the "Malaysian sun." This sentiment of inclusivity, he said, is not merely a domestic priority but has earned Malaysia global recognition as a successful multicultural society.

Addressing the conference attendees, Sultan Nazrin expressed his belief that embracing diversity is vital for national prosperity. He stressed that promoting equality and combating discrimination are essential in affirming the inherent dignity of every individual. "We must believe unequivocally that every Malaysian has a rightful place in this country," Sultan Nazrin declared, echoing his previous statements on national unity.

The Sultan’s address also touched on the broader global context, where many people face prejudice and marginalization based on their faith or ethnicity. He highlighted the urgent need to counteract hatred and ignorance with messages of inclusion, education, and love. "In the face of hostility, we must champion inclusion. In the face of ignorance, we must advocate knowledge. And in the face of fear, we must promote love," he asserted.

Sultan Nazrin pointed out that despite the widespread recognition of human dignity in global religions and international laws, the reality often falls short. He highlighted that in various parts of the world, people continue to face systemic discrimination and personal attacks based on their identities. These affronts, whether they manifest as large-scale persecution or everyday microaggressions, are direct assaults on human dignity.

"The struggle to eliminate these acts of aggression—whether on a grand or minor scale—is crucial. Each instance, no matter how small, undermines the fundamental principle of human dignity," Sultan Nazrin noted. He called for a concerted effort to ensure that all individuals, both at home and abroad, feel safe, respected, and valued.

Reflecting on the ongoing conference, themed “Dignity for Everyone, Everywhere,” Sultan Nazrin expressed hope that the discussions would advance the cause of human dignity globally. Hosted by the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (Ikim) and Brigham Young University's International Centre for Law and Religion Studies, the two-day event aims to translate the vision of universal respect into tangible outcomes.

Concluding his remarks, Sultan Nazrin wished the conference participants a productive and enlightening experience, confident that their deliberations would significantly impact the global dialogue on human dignity. His message reinforced Malaysia's role as a model for inclusivity and emphasized the ongoing global effort required to uphold and realize the principle of dignity for all.
