“The Minecraft Movie” was released with an astounding success with its opening week making a box office record of $163 million, and memes play a huge part in this massive success.

If you paid attentions to the internet recently, netizens has been making a lot of memes of the movie recently, more specifically they are memes about actor Jack Black's line delivery as “Steve” in the movie, including the infamous “Chicken Jockey” and the “Lava Chicken” song.

At first, this seems like a massive jab to the movie since the inital reaction to the movie was actually quite bad due to how it looks. According to our interview with one of the people who watched the movie, her initial reaction to it was quite bad since the movie itself look bad, and Jack Black's line delivery were too exaggerated. So what changed? How did the movie became as successful as it is?

The video game “Minecraft” has been one of the most successful game in the world, selling 300 millions copies since its release, so it's not suprise when so many Gen-Zs know about this game since it very likely has been part of their childhood. So when the movie trailer came out, so did the memes about Jack Black's line, and it spread like wildfire.

So many people are talking about “Chicken Jockey” or “Flint and Steel”, while others are making remixes or animations of Jack Black's song “Lava Chicken”. The memes became so popular that people actually went to the movie just for the memes. During the opening weekend, a video went viral of a bunch of people throwing popcorn while cheering in the theather at the “Chicken Jockey” scene. Someone even brought a chicken into that theather, showing how absurd people's reaction are to the movie.

This just shows how much internet influence could change people's decision. A popular meme help boosted the movie popularity past its downs and resulted in a massive box office success.
