Prime Minister Hun Sen has a long-term vision for Cambodia's socio-economic development. His primary focus is on economic growth, poverty alleviation, and inclusive development to create prosperity for all Cambodians through the government's Triangle Strategy, emphasising speedy reforms of financial networks.

According to the 'Essential Cambodia: A Guide for Foreign Entrepreneurs, Investors & Managers' written by Allen Dodgson Tan, published jointly by the Universal Peace Federation, Asian Cultural Council and Asian Vision Institute that the three-pronged Triangular Strategy represents the soul and spirit of national aspirations in a new era of peace, national unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and economic development.

The first side of this triangle focuses on building peace, restoring stability, and maintaining national security. The second side is the rapid integration of Cambodia into the international community, especially the community of regional nations, and the normalisation of the country's relationships with international financial institutions. The third side promotes national development through critical reform programs such as public sector and judiciary governance, private property rights, land governance, fisheries, and other natural resource protection. It envisioned catching up with the rest of the world and strengthening socio-economic.

The Ministry of Commerce reported that most businesses in Cambodia are classified as Small-to-Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). This equates to 99.8 per cent of all businesses, providing 70 per cent of all employment & 58 per cent of GDP. This category includes "micro-businesses", such as food vendors or hawkers. The famous shopping marketplace in the capital for locals and foreigners is Phnom Penh Night Market (Phsar Reatrey), along with the Russian Market and Central Market sells clothes, jewellery, accessories, a variety of traditional street food and provides entertainment with live performances by famous artists.

Family-run business conglomerates dominate the local business environment, referred to locally as 'groups'. These large groups include banks, F&B interests, trading companies, hotels, and real estate projects. These groups represent the base of business power in Cambodia and are highly competitive.
