Flowers weren’t the only thing blooming in the gardens of the Tō-ji Temple last night. On 15 April, Dior took to the historic site in Kyoto, Japan, to present its Fall/Winter 2025 fashion show for a second time. The setting proved ideal: the collection, designed by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, was woven with nods to Japanese culture. Coats and jackets referenced the silhouette of the traditional kimono, while delicate dresses and blouses were embroidered with Japanese flowers, like cherry blossoms.

There were also nods to Dior’s rich heritage. Chiuri tapped Tatsumura Textile, a Kyoto silk weaving atelier founded in 1894, to recreate the fabrics originally commissioned by Christian Dior for a collection in the 1950s. A print of a bird alighting on a cherry blossom tree, which first featured on a dress called “Jardin Japonais” (or “Japanese Garden”) from Dior’s haute couture collection for Spring/Summer 1953, was also revived.
