The neo-Nazi caught by MI5 planning a mass shooting

  • Neo-Nazi Alfie Coleman, 22, was sentenced to 13-and-a-half years in prison, plus five years on extended license, after being found guilty of preparing for terrorist acts.
  • Coleman was caught in an MI5 undercover sting operation while attempting to purchase a Makarov pistol, five magazines, and 200 rounds of ammunition for £3,500 in a Morrisons car park in Stratford, east London.
  • The court heard that Coleman, who was radicalised online from age 14, had penned a "manifesto" identifying potential targets, including the Lord Mayor of London and a mosque, and compiled a hate list of colleagues and customers.
  • A search of Coleman's home revealed the extent of his extremist ideology, including neo-Nazi symbols, extreme right-wing books, and evidence he idolised Thomas Mair, the extremist who killed MP Jo Cox.
  • Judge Richard Marks KC described Coleman as a "dangerous offender" with "virulently racist" views, while Counter Terrorism Policing London highlighted the prevention of a potential tragedy and the growing concern over online radicalisation of young people.
