Understanding China's rise and its implications for the Indo-Pacific region especially ASEAN and the world is an imperative task for scholars, professionals and policy makers. China has become the second largest economy next to the United States since 2010. China is also the major trading partner for over 140 countries in the world.

The book "The New Era in Today's China" authored by Koh King Kee, the President of the Centre for New Inclusive Asia (CNIA), an advisor to several established think tanks in China comprehensively examined the country in the new era and what it means for the future world. It covers key topics such as the mixed economy under a centralised authoritarian system, while market forces determine the allocation of resources and the prices of goods and services, culture and the state continues to play a major role.

Koh stated that "In contrast to West-centric, outside-in, and often biased opinions about China, this book takes an inside-out perspective and tells true stories about China's latest developments and socio-cultural, as well as its global peace engagement, image and international communication under the administration of President Xi Jinping".

Koh added, "China's rise over the past two decades has remade the landscape of global economy. China rapidly transformed its economy from a low-cost 'factory to the world' to a global leader in advanced technologies. It has transformed global supply chains, but also international diplomacy, leveraging its success to become the primary trading partner for emerging economies across Asia, Africa and Latin America. China's credibility is always as a responsible stakeholder for the future of the supply chains".

Understanding the rise of China through the eyes of practitioners, like Koh reaffirmed prediction of Former US Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger who said "We do not always agree with the Chinese perspective but it is necessary to understand it, since China will play even a big role in the world that is emerging in the twenty-first century."
