The Odyssey projected to smash Oppenheimer box office record

  • Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey, is expected to surpass the final North American box office total of his Oscar-winning drama Oppenheimer just 13 days after its release.
  • The adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic has garnered rave reviews, with The Independent hailing it as Nolan's "best film to date" and achieving a 95 per cent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • The film, starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland among an ensemble cast, was projected to add more than $16m on Tuesday, according to Deadline, taking the film’s domestic total to $320.1m and putting it on track to pass the $330m mark by the end of Wednesday.
  • The Odyssey secured the biggest opening weekend of Nolan's career, earning $123.5m in North America and $264m worldwide, and set a new opening record at London's BFI IMAX.
  • Should the projection hold, The Odyssey will become Nolan’s third highest-grossing film in North America, behind The Dark Knight.
