I know well that planning a traditional Malay wedding ceremony can be both exciting and complex. Based on my own experience, before the wedding, the couple will progress through all six stages of the traditional customary Malay process. Stage I: Merisik or Proposing Ceremony; Stage 2: Pertunangan or Engagement Ceremony; Stage 3: Hantaran or Dowry Giving Ceremony; Stage 4: Islamic Akad Nikah or Solemnization Ceremony; Stage 5: Bersanding or Sitting-in-State Ceremony; Stage 6: Majlis Perkahwinan or Wedding Reception for relatives & friends. These 6 stages take one year to implement it.
The traditional Malay wedding ceremony begins with the engagement or pertunangan. This initial stage is the formal declaration of the intent to marry, commonly including exchanging gifts such as rings and traditional outfits. Families typically plan a meal and gathering for each of significant milestone to celebrate with close relatives and friends. Both families recognize each other's heritage at this stage. Parents also swap rings as a symbol of the consent.

One of the most important ceremonies in Malay wedding traditions is the Islamic Akad Nikah or solemnization ceremony. This ceremony presided by the local Islamic Religious Representative who will recite prayers marks the official and legal declaration of the bride and groom as husband and wife in front of the family and friends, essentially serving as a mini-wedding event. The groom also use this opportunity to pledge his loyalty and devotion to his wife.

Last Saturday, my sister, Eda & her husband, Din requested me to be the spoke-man at the engagement ceremony of their son, Nazhiim with companion, Farra. I was pleased to accept this responsibility & held discussions on the proceedings with Farra's uncle, Darus Danial in the presence of her parents, Adnin & Monaliza. It has been amicably resolved related ceremonies from engagement, Akad right-up to wedding reception to be done on the same day.
