In a dramatic twist of events, a Malaysian woman's attempt to extort money from her husband through a fake kidnapping plot has led to her imprisonment. The case, involving Syuzzana Yahaya, 32, and her accomplice Mohd Feardous Osman, 42, highlights a failed scheme that ended in legal consequences.

On July 26, Syuzzana and Mohd Feardous orchestrated a deceitful plan to extract RM2,000 from Zakaria Mohd Nooh, Syuzzana's husband. The scheme involved sending a threatening message via WhatsApp to Zakaria, demanding money and threatening harm if he contacted the police. The message, sent from a location in Pekan Nanas, warned Zakaria of potential starvation or violence against his family if he failed to comply.

The plan unravelled swiftly when the authorities became involved. Syuzzana confessed her role in the scheme when her charges were read in court, leading to a sentence of three months in jail and a RM2,000 fine. Magistrate Nur Azzuin Abdul Moati delivered the sentence after Syuzzana admitted her guilt.

In contrast, Mohd Feardous, who was also charged under Section 385 of the Penal Code, which punishes extortion with up to seven years in prison, a fine, or caning, chose to plead not guilty. This section of the law aims to combat threats and coercion, emphasizing its seriousness in maintaining societal order.

The court proceedings saw Syuzzana and Mohd Feardous appearing without legal representation in court. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurezzati Zaini led the prosecution. For Syuzzana, the sentence included an additional three months of imprisonment if she failed to pay the RM2,000 fine, demonstrating the court's commitment to addressing such crimes effectively.

As for Mohd Feardous, he was granted bail set at RM5,000 with one surety, and the case is scheduled for further mention and document submission on September 2. The court's decision reflects the gravity of the offense and serves as a reminder of the legal consequences of engaging in criminal activities, even when driven by personal motives.
