A video of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim converting a new brother to Islam at the Ar-Rahimiah Mosque in Klang, Selangor, quickly went viral.

Since the video has been posted, the 1-minute-26-second video has gone viral on all social networking platforms.

According to Suara Keadilan, after Friday prayers at the Ar Rahimiah Mosque in Klang, Selangor, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had the opportunity to convert a new brother to Islam.

He taught the two words of shahadah to a 27-year-old man, Muhamad Anwar Karthiban, who subsequently formally joined Islam in front of the Friday prayer audience.

Anwar has previously led Friday prayers at the mosque with roughly 1,000 pilgrims.

A convert's conversion to Islam recalls the figure of Anwar when he was young with ABIM 50 years ago, who preached a lot and was instrumental in converting the Orang Asli tribe to Islam, among other things.

However, not everyone is happy with what the Prime Minister did. Religion is a difficult issue in a multicultural nation, particularly when people convert to another religion.

Non-Muslims have criticized Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for openly converting a Hindu youth to Islam after performing Friday prayers at a mosque in Klang, Selangor.

Former Penang deputy chief minister Prof P. Ramasamy said Anwar's actions showed that he has neither respect nor gratitude for the Indian population, which has made significant sacrifices for the country's development.

"It is unacceptable that the Prime Minister converted a Hindu youth to Islam in a mosque in Klang. No other prime minister has done this before. Why is it necessary to convert the Hindu youth and what is the speciality of this conversion for Anwar?

Meanwhile, Malaysian Advancement Party head P. Waytha Moorthy stated that Anwar's 'ritual' conversion had generated concern among non-Muslims.

“Many non-Muslims in the country expressed their disagreement over the fact that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim publicly converted a Hindu youth at a mosque after Friday prayers.”

“While religious freedom is guaranteed by the Federal Constitution, the youth was exercising his right to practice the religion of his choice.”

"Because he is willing to convert voluntarily, the complaint does not lie there." Millions of non-Muslims, however, wonder why the prime minister should be the one to initiate them into the Islamic faith?” he said.

In my personal opinion, there is nothing wrong with the Prime Minister for doing what he did. It is important to understand that while the Prime Minister is trying to help people of other races in this country, he should not be dissed every time he is doing anything ‘Islamic’. He is, after all, a Muslim.
