Malaysia is known the world over as a food paradise. So, perhaps it was no major surprise that a rat decided to gate crash and treat itself to a crispy, yummy fried chicken at a local Mamak outlet in Kuala Lumpur recently.
And since it was the Christmas-cum-New Year season and many were in a party mood, maybe this "party animal" could have mistaken the place for an "open house".
After all, Malaysians are known for their awesome hospitality (and appetite!) when it comes to food... especially during the many festive seasons here when there are plenty of free foods on offer.
The news even caused a stir in our renowned food-loving neighbours Singapore where the rat was even described as being "large" by one of their online news portals mothership. But frankly though by Malaysian standards, at best, it can only be considered M-sized. We can be sure that many of us have seen much larger ones, especially around the food courts here!

Incidentally, the news was first highlighted by a diner in the restaurant who unfortunately happened to be sitting quite close to the scene of the drama.
It must have been the ultimate "extreme dining experience" to witness a rodent munching away its prized fried chicken nonchalantly in typical Malaysian "tidak apa" style right in front of your eyes! (Err... something like what we are so often used to seeing at open house "kenduris" in our country)
Anyway, to prevent other rats from making a beeline to the place to get a taste of the free fried chicken, the restaurant has been ordered to shut down for two weeks by the local authorities.
As for the headline-making rat, in spite of being at the centre of the controversy, it seemed to have got away scot-free. Hopefully not munch away more free food at nearby Christmas "open houses"!
As for those itching to celebrate the New Year countdown soon, at your favourite hangout, maybe you should just keep an eye on the next table!
