As a Kampung Boy, I found durian offers a highly complex nutritional profile with heart-healthy fats, and essential minerals that far exceeds almost all other tropical fruits. The nutritional powerhouse packed with healthy carbohydrates, durian acts as a natural energizer to replenish low blood sugar and combat fatigue. It contains zero cholesterol and is loaded with monounsaturated fats that actively help lower bad LDL cholesterol levels. Its exceptionally high potassium, containing about 436 mg of potassium per 100 grams of flesh. This makes it even higher in potassium than bananas, of which contain around 358 mg per 100 grams. Durian is one of the most calorie-dense fruits in the world. Based on my own experience, a healthy person should limit their durian intake to 2 to 3 seeds, about 100 grams of flesh, per sitting. This portion provides a rich amount of nutrients without exceeding daily limits for sugar, calories, and potassium. In traditional beliefs, eating too much durian can make the body feel “heaty”. From a modern medicine perspective, this is our metabolism working harder to process the dense of load of fats, sugars, and calories. So, enjoying durian in a moderation is a good goal to aim for while keeping an eye on overall health.

A community durian feast is one of the most effective ways to foster neighborliness, celebrate regional culture, and unite people over a shared culinary love. Because durian is a highly sensory and collaborative fruit to eat, organizing or attending a public durian party creates immediate social connections.

So, a community durian fiesta for my alma mater, King Edward VII (KE7) Tigers is a phenomenal way to channel the massive “Old Edwardian” brotherhood spirit ahead of the historic Super Academy Rugby Grand Final against ARAS, at Stadium Merdeka KL gives stakeholders opportunity to rally together.
