The anticipation for one of the world’s most dazzling events has officially begun. Miss Universe 2025 has entered its final stage in Thailand, where 122 glamourous women from around the world are vying for the crown and the chance to succeed Victoria Kjær Theilvig, the reigning Miss Universe.
But behind the glitz, lights, and global attention lies a series of emotional stories: those of contestants who had to withdraw from the competition just before their dreams took flight.
A Global Celebration of Beauty and Purpose
This year’s Miss Universe competition once again embodies its timeless message - “beauty with a purpose.” Over the past few weeks, contestants have participated in cultural showcases, charitable projects, and leadership programs that test not only their grace but their compassion and commitment to global causes.
Fans worldwide have passionately rallied behind their national queens, flooding social media with support. Yet, amid all the excitement, a few nations faced heartbreak as their representatives were unable to make it to the stage.

Emotional Farewell from Miss Universe Germany
Among the most heartfelt withdrawals was Diana Fast, Miss Universe Germany 2025. A mother of a five-year-old, Diana chose family over fame, stepping down to focus on building a new home for her son.
Her organization supported her decision with grace and solidarity, refusing to appoint a replacement. Instead, they donated €30,000 (RM160,000) to HeartPawject, a Thai animal welfare group - turning what could have been a disappointment into a beautiful act of kindness that perfectly captured the Miss Universe spirit.
Persia’s Sahar Biniaz: A Stand for Solidarity
The pageant world was shaken when Sahar Biniaz, Miss Universe Persia 2025, announced her withdrawal after her national director, Golshan Barazesh, was detained during a visit to Iran. In a moving statement, Sahar wrote, “Out of deep respect and concern for her safety and well-being, I’ve made the difficult decision to withdraw.”
This marks the second time fate has interfered with Sahar’s Miss Universe journey - she was previously crowned Miss Universe Canada 2012 but withdrew after a foot injury.
Niger’s First-Ever Representative Grounded by Logistics
For Zoulahatou Amadou, Miss Universe Niger 2025, was meant to be historic - her country’s debut on the global stage. However, visa and flight delays prevented her from arriving in Thailand on time.
The organization, acknowledging her perseverance, has graciously invited her to compete in the 2026 edition, offering a second chance to make history.
China’s Age Restriction Controversy
In China, Miss Universe China 2025, Xuhe Hou was initially slated to compete but resigned over issues reportedly tied to the organization’s age restriction policies, sparking fan debates online.
Her runner-up, Zhao Na, has since taken the mantle and is now proudly representing China in Thailand.
Congo’s Contractual Drama
Miss Universe Congo 2025 also faced drama when Déborah Djema was dismissed after refusing to sign her contract.
With her runners-up unavailable, the committee appointed Dorcas Dienda Kasinde to represent the Democratic Republic of the Congo instead, ensuring the nation remains part of the Miss Universe lineup.
Other Nations Sitting Out
Several countries - including Bahrain, Cameroon, Cyprus, Eritrea, Fiji, Gibraltar, Kenya, the Maldives, Mongolia, Montenegro, Samoa, Somalia, and Uzbekistan - will not be competing this year, largely due to scheduling and organizational hurdles.
Despite these withdrawals, Miss Universe 2025 remains an elegant celebration of beauty, diversity, and resilience.
As Thailand prepares to crown its next global ambassador, one truth shines brighter than any glittering crown: the true beauty of Miss Universe lies not only in appearance but also in the strength, integrity, and compassion of the women who carry its name and uphold its duties around the world.
