Pierce Brosnan warned his 25-year-old son about the realities of Hollywood as he embarks on a career in acting.
The 73-year-old James Bond star was speaking at the premiere of his son Paris’s new film, Seniors, when he shared the advice he gave his youngest on how “tough” the entertainment industry is.
“No, it's a very tough business, it is a very capricious business at times, but Paris has the strength and the stamina, he has a talent there, he's got a charisma, and he's got good sense and intuition, he really has a talent there that will need to be nurtured and worked on,” he told Fox.
“The work that you need to do, the discipline it takes to be an actor, to work on your voice, to work on your body, to work on your mind and the discipline of reading and studying...So he has all of that,” he said.
The Mamma Mia star explained that he and his current wife, Keely Shaye Smith, raised their sons Paris and Dylan with a sense of normalcy despite the Hollywood life they led.
“We kept them close... We had family dinners, drive them to school, pick them up from school,” Brosnan said. “We are very close, the whole family.”
In Seniors, Paris portrays a teenager performing community service at a retirement home, where he bonds with one of the residents, played by John Rhys-Davies, his father’s friend since the 1970s.
Paris, who is also a painter and model, said on the red carpet that it was a “full-circle” moment working with Rhys-Davies.
“My father started his career working with John, and I got to begin mine, and the experience was nothing short of a master class, truly,” he explained.
Brosnan and his late wife, the actress Cassandra Harris, had three children, Christopher, Sean and daughter Charlotte, who died in 2013 aged 41 from ovarian cancer.
Brosnan and his second wife had their two sons, Dylan, 29, and Paris, who they raised in Hawaii.
The actor has previously spoken about his close-knit family, and shared his secret to a long-lasting marriage. He has been married to Smith for 25 years.
“You know, it's just solving one problem after the [other], whether it's the washing machine or how far the finances are going to go or what your dreams are. But, ultimately, we just enjoy each other's company enormously,” he said last year.
“She's given me wings to fly and lets me, you know, gallivant around the world here making movies,” he said.
