The world is witnessing another farcical geopolitical subterfuge as France, the Netherlands, Germany, Britain, and Australia proclaim the urgent need for a Palestinian state. The farce lies in the fact that these same nations have supplied arms to Israel and remain complicit in the genocide in Palestine.
Why this sudden change of heart? Has the scale of killings – including women, pregnant women, and children – finally stirred their consciences to confront the atrocities committed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Zionist forces?
Their declarations amount to little more than a public relations exercise, aimed at avoiding being seen as complicit in the genocide. France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Britain joined the worldwide condemnation of Israel for its horrendous killings and for weaponising starvation.
They were compelled to issue such statements recognising a Palestinian state to quell internal political pressures and mounting global condemnation of Israel, as 147 out of 193 United Nations member states have already recognised Palestine.
Even Australia joined in, but was swiftly rebuked by Netanyahu, who condemned Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as a weak leader and antisemitic, accusing him of undermining the security of Jews in Australia.
Following Netanyahu’s criticism, Albanese appeared to backtrack on his earlier stance regarding recognition of a Palestinian state.
Aligning with Netanyahu’s agenda of targeting and destroying Iran, Albanese expelled the Iranian Ambassador, Ahmad Sadeghi, accusing the country of acting against Australian Jews. Iran categorically denied the allegation. Albanese went further by designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organisation.
But what is the point of recognising a Palestinian state if these Western powers take no action to halt the ongoing carnage? They hypocritically call for a ceasefire, but without consequence. Netanyahu continues his killing rampage.
Any declaration to recognise a Palestinian state next month is meaningless without concrete action and intervention to stop Netanyahu and the Zionist forces from continuing this genocide.
Palestine risks becoming a lost nation, as happened to the Native Americans and the Aboriginal Australians.
If these nations genuinely support a Palestinian state and the right of its people to exist, they must act to stop the genocide – including considering a peacekeeping military intervention.
If they truly support Palestinian statehood, they must go beyond words and move to action to end the violence.
