Newswav had its second Creator Awards last Wednesday at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort, and it was a grand affair.
I think it was bodes well that not only was it a grand affair, but that it was held for a second time.
Like Poelho Coelho said, I also believe that 'Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.'
That there was a second Awards function means that there will a third, and I hope that the third one will follow the trend and become even grander than the first and second time, and lead the way for the awards to not only be a family affair for Newswav, but perhaps even something bigger, like a national affair perhaps.
Fingers crossed.
Personally, it was great night for me. Any day that you win is a good day, but it also helps that the room was grand, the food great and you were surrounded by fellow winners. I loved the fact that I seated in the same table as Citizen Nades, also a winner and a stalwart in the Malaysian media landscape.
If I have one regret it is that i did not take a single picture with Aaron, my friend and former student who accompanied me at the night. What can I say, the one that cooks the meal is often the one that doesn't eat at the feast, eh Aaron. Of all people, you would think that the first picture that you would take is with the person that is taking the pictures, but what to do - i suppose it is the nature of life that the obvious is always the easiest thing to miss.
I suppose one unintended lesson I shall take away from this Award show is on what not to do and what to remember the next time I win something.
As I was sitting in the Award show, I also couldn't also help recall - rather nostalgically, I must say - that it has been 2 and a half years since I started of with Newswav.
Thinking of that, reminded me of what Rick Blaine said to Captain Renault at the end of Casablanca : " I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship."
"Fortune," like Caesar says, has indeed" a great deal of power"... it can indeed "bring about great changes in a situation through very slight forces."
2 and half years ago, while sipping a teh tarik and googling through the net at my local Nasi Kandar, i stumbled upon Newswav.
If I clicked one way, things would have gone one way, and if I clicked another way, it would have gone in a different direction.
I am glad that fortune was with me when i made that click then, because it has made all the difference that counts.
The last two and half years wouldn't have been the same without Newswav - its been a great ride - I hope it will go on for as long as it can, and when it ends, I will definitely remember the time that I travelled with Newswav through this thing called life, with fondness and appreciation.
On behalf of myself, and perhaps all my fellow creators in Newswav, and perhaps even all the other creators in the country who have yet to board the Newswav platform too, I think this is a good time to express our heartfelt appreciation to you.
Thank you Newswav, for many things - thank you for the wonderful award function and the wonderful buffet that accompanied it - thank you for the roses and the awards and hampers and goodies - thank you for making another year of making us creators feel important and thank you for arranging a get together for all of us, in this often lonely and solitary job.
Most of though, thank you for just existing. Thank for for just being present, and giving hope and opportunity to all the creators in your stable as well as other creators in the country.
In other words, thank you for being you, for if you were not you, we could not be who we are.
