
Kota Kinabalu: A 47-year-old man currently serving jail time for theft, Tuesday, received another 12 months’ jail and fined RM3,000 or four months for a similar offence.
Mohd Sunil Talib pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to stealing a handphone, gold jewellery worth RM1,500 and RM260 cash belonging to one Olina @ Regina Pijin.
Sunil committed the offence along with Mohd Ali Boy at 2.30pm on April 29, 2021 in a house at Jalan Bukit Vor, Putatan.
The charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine or whipping on conviction.
Unrepresented Sunil, an electrician requested the sentence to run concurrently with his present jail term and promised not to repeat a similar offence in the future adding that he has two children.
The Magistrate ordered Sunil to serve the imprisonment sentence consecutively with his other sentences.
Sunil was on June 8 this year jailed for a total of 48 months and fined RM12,000 on six counts of theft.
He was sentenced to eight months’ jail, which was ordered to run consecutively and was ordered to pay a fine of RM2,000 or two months jail on each count.
In another case, a self-employed man was charged with assaulting his stepson.
Rashid Hasim pleaded not guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to the 14-year-old alleged victim at 10.15pm on Oct 16 this year at Kg Bakau, Likas.
Rashid, who was not represented, claimed he did not hit the boy.
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.
The prosecution in applying for a case management date, proposed no bail as the accused has no document.
Stephanie set Dec 13 for mention and ordered Rashid to be further remanded.
In another case, four people were penalised for having syabu.
Zailawati Awang, Dexter Tomboc, Azenol Sardy and Raimie Tarala admitted separately to having syabu weighing between 0.11gm and 0.01gm at different locations in Putatan, Manggatal and Inanam between July 21 and Oct 5 this year.
Zailawati and Dexter were handed nine months’ jail each while Azenol and Raimie were jailed eight months.
They were charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years’ jail, or both, on conviction.
