Amid continuing uncertainty over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump on Sunday said negotiations with Iran over its nuclear programme and a broader regional settlement were progressing “in an orderly and constructive manner”, but stressed that Washington would not rush into an agreement.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the US naval blockade linked to Iran would remain “in full force and effect” until a final agreement was formally concluded and signed.
“The negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have informed my representatives not to rush into a deal since time is on our side,” Trump said, signalling that key differences still persist despite reports of substantial progress. However, he added: “Both sides must take their time and get it right. There can be no mistakes!” Trump also attacked the 2015 nuclear agreement negotiated during ex-President Barack Obama’s administration, calling it “one of the worst deals ever made”.
Meanwhile, during a telephonic conversation with Trump, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would remain free to act against threats in Lebanon during , a source stated.
