A MINISTER today stressed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should be allowed to serve his full term to ensure all initiatives for the people are implemented.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said those who had called for a change in administration were only doing it for self-interest.
"Do not destabilise the government by causing undue provocation. This could harm progress and the national economy," he said in a social media post.
Following the Court of Appeal’s decision yesterday, opposition leaders accused Anwar of concealing a royal addendum that purportedly allowed Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to serve his sentence under house arrest.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari called for Anwar’s resignation over the matter, claiming the government’s actions represent a serious violation of Najib’s right to a fair trial and justice.
Tiong, who is also the Bintulu MP said that the public would have the opportunity to evaluate the government’s performance during the next general election season.
“If Anwar fails to deliver a good performance, the people can express their dissatisfaction through the ballot box,” he said.
Recently Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg also repeated his call to let Anwar complete his five-year term as prime minister.
The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman noted there were certain quarters that were too preoccupied with talking about replacing Anwar as the prime minister in the media.
"Why need to replace him when his term has not ended yet?" he asked.
He also questioned why the need to fight for power when the current term of the federal government is not over.
He said the unity government should be allowed to do its work and discharge its responsibilities to the people. - January 7, 2025
