Calling all hipsters, food lovers and health enthusiasts, there’s a new ‘Michelin-standard’ wellness-focused café in town, and we want to let you know all about it!

On the surface, After One looks like any other café: aesthetic interior design, classic café food and plenty of sunlight for patrons to get that perfect shot of their food.

However, after we at WORLD OF BUZZ visited the place and spoke with the passionate team behind After One, we realised a few things make the café stand out.

1. An elegantly curated plant-based menu

Vegans rejoice! While many cafés are starting to offer plant-based replacements for specific menu items After One is going the extra mile to serve carefully created ‘Michelin-standard’ vegetarian and vegan food options.

But what does ‘Michelin-standard’ mean? Does this café have the much-coveted Michelin star?

Well, the short answer is no. After One is not Michelin star accredited.

We do not have the most refined palette, but we think the food is probably at least worth 1 Michelin star!

Growing up vegetarian in Malaysia, Chef Lee, After One’s Head Chef, had various soy products as meat replacements in Chinese dishes.

However, during his 3 years working at a Michelin star restaurant in New York City, he discovered that the plant-based food there differed vastly from those at home.

“I wanted to showcase what I used to eat (as a vegetarian) in New York City. We serve the vegetables the way they are; without changing them much but just adding some vinegar, oils and salt to bring out their textures and flavours.”

With intentions to highlight the natural flavours of vegetables, Chef Lee set out to develop the wholesome dishes that are now on After One’s menu.

Some of the dishes that we tried are charred baby corn, roasted cauliflower soup, tomato tartine, tofu scramble and vegan pancakes.

Light and bursting with flavours, they were one of the best vegan food we have ever had!

2. Beautiful location and design

Tucked between multiple condominiums and office towers, After One is an “isolated oasis in the middle of the bustling city.”

As you settle into one of their many outdoor cosy and Pinterest-worthy seating areas, don’t forget to look up for magnificent views of the concrete jungle that is Kuala Lumpur.

With a Scandinavian design, multi-experience indoor and semi-outdoor space, and ample natural sunlight, After One is a rejuvenating space that allows customers to have a pleasant time with family and friends.

3. A wellness space for everyone

After One aims to be a café that is kind to all: pet-friendly, vegan-friendly and pork-free.

Hence, classic café food such as homemade waffles and big breakfast is still available next to the plant-based menu.

Housed in a refurbished stand-alone bungalow, After One also provides half-day and full-day event space. It was designed to accommodate up to 130 pax.

Therefore, when we visited the café, there was also a mini bazaar taking place in the bungalow’s front yard.

Vendors range from those selling plants to artisan sanitisers to homemade knick-knacks such as candle holders, coasters and accessories.

So, if you want to try out some good plant-based café food, catch up with friends and take cute photos in the aesthetic space or support some small local businesses, head on to After One now!
