An aurora in Malaysia? Well, that's definitely a first!

Residents of Sungai Besar, Selangor, were taken aback by an unusual sight as the night sky transformed into a bright green hue, resembling an aurora in Malaysia, a phenomenon never witnessed before. According to locals, the spectacle lasted only for a brief period, with one resident likening it to a moving sky. Others even suggested that it resembled an aurora.

Experts from the National Weather Service explained that water and ice particles within the clouds can scatter blue light, leading to a greenish tint when illuminated by the sun's rays. Despite this explanation, some netizens found the occurrence bizarre and speculated that it could be attributed to green lights used by fishing boats in the nearby sea to capture squid. However, one individual dismissed this theory, claiming to have witnessed the green sky not near the sea but on the road. Simultaneously, they noted that the sky over the sea behind their house did not change colour.

Another plausible scientific explanation suggests that storms and thunderclouds may produce hail or ice, leading to light reflections in the sky, causing the unusual phenomenon. With recent heavy rainfall in the area, this second theory also seems plausible. Waste no time, as a Facebook user promptly shared their insights on this rare event, provoking discussion among fascinated netizens.
