IKEA has recalled certain batches of its IKEA 365+ VÄRDEFULL garlic press after identifying a manufacturing defect that could cause small metal fragments to detach during use. Customers have been told to stop using the product immediately and return it for a full refund.

The recall affects garlic presses sold globally, both online and in stores, with IKEA confirming that the defect could lead tometal pieces being swallowed with food. According to the company, no proof of purchase is required for customers seeking a refund.

The warning applies to black IKEA 365+ VÄRDEFULL garlic presses carrying specific date stamps between 2411 and 2522, following what the retailer described as a production error discovered during an internal investigation. The affected products can also be identified by an IKEA logo marked on the upper handle.

According to IKEA, the date stamps follow a year-and-week format, meaning “2411” refers to week 11 of 2024. The company stated that customers unable to identify the date stamp can still return any IKEA 365+ VÄRDEFULL garlic press in black for a refund.

Manufacturing Defect Prompts Global Recall

IKEA said the recall was issued after concerns emerged that small metal fragments could break away from the garlic press while it was being used. The company warned that these fragments could mix with food and potentially be ingested, creating both laceration and ingestion hazards.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), around 43,830 units were sold in the United States, with a further 10,700 sold in Canada. The recalled products were available from March 2024 through May 2025 for approximately $8.

The CPSC stated that IKEA had received 10 incident reports globally linked to the product. Three of those reports involved lacerations and finger splinters, although no injuries were reported in the United States. The recall specifically concerns garlic presses with the article number 201.521.58 in some markets and 601.636.02 in others. IKEA explained that only models displaying the IKEA logo on the upper handle are affected.

The products were manufactured in China, according to the CPSC recall notice published on 31 July 2025. IKEA Supply AG of Switzerland was listed as the importer, while IKEA US Retail LLC was identified as the retailer involved in the American recall process.

Customers Advised to Stop Using Product Immediately

IKEA has instructed customers to stop using the garlic press immediately and return it to any IKEA store for afull refund. According to the retailer, customers do not need to provide a receipt or proof of purchase.

For customers unable to visit a store, IKEA said support teams can provide instructions on how to dispose of the recalled item safely while still receiving a refund. The company also urged customers who may have gifted or loaned the product to inform others about the recall.

In its public statement, IKEA apologised for the inconvenience caused by the recall. The company said the issue was identified during an investigation into a production error affecting certain date-stamped products.

The retailer has issued several product recalls in recent months, although the company’s latest warning focuses specifically on the IKEA 365+ VÄRDEFULL garlic press. Further information has been published through IKEA’s customer support and product recall pages.
