In response to the matter about the Chinese school in Selangor that received sponsorship from a beer company, Anthony Loke said he would be having a discussion with the cabinet today (July 24) to review the current circular from the Ministry of Education (MOE).
“The brewery companies have been funding schools for over 30 years without any issues.”
The Minister of Education herself, Fadhlina Sidek made it clear that she will not make any amendments to the circular.
“We welcome all funds but all schools are expected to follow the guidelines set by the MOE.”
Protect the circular at ALL costs
In his Facebook post this morning, Dr Akmal Saleh voiced his support for Fadhlina over her decision to maintain the current circular.
“I fully support the MOE for maintaining the policies on not receiving funds from not just alcohol companies but also tobacco and gambling organisations.”
Akmal also said he expected the government to protect the current circular regardless of the pressure from any ministers who want to see changes. In his post, Akmal also left a short reminder to Anthony Loke, the Minister of Transport.
“This is a country with rules that you have to follow, not a country that follows your rules, Anthony.”
In his post, Akmal also highlighted that even Malaysian football leagues are NOT allowed to receive sponsorships from said companies.
“If the football leagues don’t take sponsorships from them, then schools should not receive funds from them too. Free our children from these negative elements!”
Earlier, a Chinese school in Sepang went viral for receiving sponsorships from a beer company, which prompted PAS to respond and question the matter, especially after seeing a Muslim politician present at the event.
