After numerous attempts for an appeal, the Federal Court has decided to uphold Najib’s sentence of 12 years behind bars and a fine of RM210 million. His daughter later posted on Instagram and made it clear that the family will not rest until justice is served.

As for the former Prime Minister himself, he might have foreseen his own fate in prison. Just last night (August 23), it was revealed that Najib penned a heartfelt letter and left it on the desk for his family before he left for court. The person who handles his Facebook account has since shared the letter, which sees Najib reminiscing his times spent in the world of politics.

“46 years is a long time”

The letter was addressed to his family, including his grandchildren whom he calls “his family, his love”, and continued by saying he has been in the world of politics for nearly five decades.

“Up until today, it has been 46 years, and it’s a long time.”

From planning the development and handling of the economy and solving crisis after crisis, Najib expressed that the world of politics and public services has its pros and cons, where the challenges, at times, have brought a smile to his face when the results turned out to be good.

“Sometimes, things did not turn out to be as good as I expected. But I kept trying and trying.”

“A sacrifice I chose and I made”

But the letter is so much more about his times spent in politics. Najib also took the opportunity to express his regrets over the times NOT spent with his family when he was occupied with work.

“My years have gone by dedicated to people, public service, politics.”

“A journey that was joyous with your presence but unfortunately I overlooked and could not always be there for you.”

Najib continued, “This is my destiny and a test from the Almighty, but I can’t do anything because I’m merely a human who awaits judgement in the afterlife.”

‘My family, my love. This is as far as Daddy can go with you. We live temporarily in the world, and hopefully we’ll be together again in the afterlife. May Allah bless our family.”

Najib is expected to “meet” the rakyat again when he is out of prison at the age of 81.
